When Hymns Become a Prayer

This piece intentionally weaves the titles and phrases of beloved Christian hymns and worship songs into original prose, honoring the language of the faith while offering a fresh meditation.

To God Be the Glory, for the great things He has done. As it has been and ever shall be, a

world without end. Amen.

As I Survey the Wondrous Cross, where You came to die, for Nothing but Your Blood can make me Whole Again. I discovered anew that ’Tis So Sweet to Trust in You, Jesus.

My prayer rises simply: More Love to Thee, O Christ, for I need No Other Argument, I seek No Other Plea—it is enough, more than enough, that You died for me.

Let my Faith Be Built on Nothing Less but You alone; for On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand, all other ground is sinking sand. This Amazing Grace still amazes me,a sacred mystery that leaves me asking, How Can It Be that Thou, my Lord, should die for me?

Therefore, I confess, I Need Thee Every Hour. Lead me on, Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah, through deserts and promises alike. Where You Lead Me I Will Follow—Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior, hear my humble cry.

So help me to lift Your praise anew, with a Gladsome Mind, grateful in every situation for mercies never failing. Jesus, Lover of My Soul, let me to Thy bosom ever rest.

Then my soul will sing, How Great Thou Art! Yes—how great Thou art!

For I have learned that Through All the Changing Scenes of Life, in sorrow and in song, it is only Thy praise my mouth should employ. Let me never grow weary of the glad old songs of the saints who have gone before me.

And at the last, let it be “Jesus Ye”, You have done it again with the host of heaven, let me join the eternal anthem, crying:

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, LORD GOD ALMIGHTY!

This prose also lives as a song. You are invited to listen and let the music deepen the prayer.
