The King’s Heart: Unlocking Favor Through Divine Access

ree

After reading Psalm 47:9, I was inspired to explore what it truly means for God to own the hearts of kings. The verse stirred something deeper in me:

The leaders of the nations have gathered together with the people of the God of Abraham. For the kings of the earth belong to God; He is greatly exalted. — Psalm 47:9

This revelation led me to Proverbs 21:1:

The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.

In pursuit of deeper insight, I found a commentary on Proverbs 21:1 that was spiritually mind-blowing. Here’s a snippet that arrested my attention:

In conversion, the Lord can turn the hearts of men as He pleases. Their understanding, will, and affections are in His hands… He can change and turn it just as He will; He who made the heart can operate upon it and do with it as seems good in His sight. - BibleStudyTools.com

Divine Influence Over Earthly Power

This truth is not just theological—it’s historical and practical. Consider:

  • Nehemiah prayed before requesting the king’s favor (Nehemiah 2:4).

  • Esther fasted before approaching the king (Esther 4:16).

  • Joseph found favor with Pharaoh because God was with him (Genesis 41).

  • Daniel remained prayerful under pagan kings and thrived because of God’s hand.

Each of them saw the hearts of rulers move, but only after they sought God first. They did not approach earthly kings without first petitioning the King of kings.

Modern Application: Students, Entrepreneurs, Leaders

This spiritual principle is still relevant today:

  • Are you a student praying for scholarships or grants? The Lord holds the key to the hearts of those who decide where the funding goes.

  • Are you a businessperson or entrepreneur needing capital or strategic connections? God has the power to incline the hearts of those with the resources you need.

  • Are you appealing to a manager, government official, or even a spouse?

Remember—every heart is in God’s hand.

Before you send that application, email, proposal, or request—pray. The key that opens the door is still in the hands of the One who made the heart.

Don’t Speak to the King Without First Speaking to the King of Kings

It’s a spiritual misstep to try and move the heart of someone in power without first consulting the God who rules over all. True favor is not manipulated—it’s released through prayer.

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world and all who live in it. — Psalm 24:1

So whatever you’re seeking—education, funding, influence, or restoration—let your first move be upward. Speak to Heaven. The One who turns rivers can surely turn hearts.
